Santa Margarita Ranch

The site was first recorded in 1769 when Padre Juan Crespi selected the lush, fertile valley as a site to establish an assistant mission for Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. It was formally recognized in 1787 with a number of adobe structures in use. The region yielded many crops and large herds of livestock with the assistance of the large Chumash Indian population.
